Vistra Energy buys large West Texas solar farm

OCI Solar Power’s Alamo 4 plant in Brackettville features more than 150,000 solar panels and sits on 600 acres of privately owned land. The solar farm is OCI Solar’s first Texas project outside of metro San Antonio and was built as part of an agreement with CPS Energy to provide solar-generated electricity.

Dallas-based Vistra Energy said Wednesday that it has purchased one of the largest utility-scale solar farms in Texas, known as Upton County Solar 2.

The project, which is expected to start generating energy next summer, will have the capacity to generate 180 megawatts of power, the most of any solar farm in Texas, Vistra said in a news release. Vistra is the parent company of TXU Energy, a retail electric provider, and Luminant, a power company, both based in Dallas.
