Hot weather could push ERCOT to new peak power demand record by week’s end

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas could see a new peak demand record by the end of the week with temperatures forecast at their highest levels so far this season.

System load in ERCOT is forecast to peak at 68,200 MW Wednesday, 68,575 MW Thursday and 69,100 MW Friday, and is projected above 69,250 MW for the middle of next week as well.

ERCOT’s record peak is 68,305 MW set August 3, 2011.

“We do not have a conservation request in place at this time, but we continue to evaluate system conditions and generation availability to determine whether an appeal is needed today, tomorrow and/or Friday,” ERCOT spokeswoman Robbie Searcy said.
