Heat Puts Extra Pressure On Local Power Grid RSS Feed

Heat is a source of power outages. It puts more pressure on the power grid too which can eventually lead to rolling blackouts if demand exceeds capacity. Hundreds of Cedar Park homeowners were without power over the weekend. The Pedernales Electric Cooperative says equipment failure is to blame which may have been a result of the heat, but crews are still investigating.

Cedar Park Homeowner Ron Krzyzanowski knows about rolling blackouts. He lived in San Francisco for a while. So when his power went out on Saturday… “Just kind of sit back and wait for it to come on,” said Krzyzanowski.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas or ERCOT manages the flow of electric power to 24 million Texans. Their app sends out power alerts so power customers can stay informed.
