Electricity demand across Texas set new records for July usage this week, prompting the state’s electrical grid operator to ask residents in the Rio Grande Valley to conserve power during the afternoon.

The Electricity Reliability Council of Texas ended its request for energy conservation Friday afternoon, but it expects new requests to come and anticipates more record usage before the summer ends.’
