Nissan launches home energy storage battery

Japan-based Nissan will be marketing a home battery energy storage device, called XStorage Home systems, according to the Guardian.

Nissan will manufacture the batteries from cells like those used in its Leaf electric car, and customers can choose from new or refurbished batteries, which are more expensive. U.S. firm Eaton will sell the batteries in a partnership with Nissan, according to the Guardian.

A factory in Sunderland, U.K. will make the batteries, and they will be assembled in Morocco. Nissan hopes to compete with Tesla Motors’ own home energy device, the Powerwall, whose cells are made in Japan by Panasonic.
